Academic Advising

A Faculty or Student Success Coach is one of the most important relationships you will have during your time at GTCC. Our coaches are highly trained and will guide you from start to graduation. Meeting with your coach on a regular basis will ensure that you remain on track to achieve your goals and graduate on time.

Find Your Advisor

Academic Advising is done by Faculty Coaches and/or Student Success Coaches. You are assigned a coach based on your primary program selected during your application of admissions and/or program changes completed.

Follow these steps to see who is assigned as your advisor: 

  1. Log in to Navigate.
  2. Click on Resources.
  3. Click People.
  4. See advisor.

Schedule an Advising Session


To schedule an online advising session, send an email to requesting an online advising appointment or enter your cell number on our Student Success Center Callback Queue and someone will contact you to arrange an appointment. Callback queue is open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To receive advising without an appointment, stop by a Student Success Center location. You can enter a virtual queue for each campus and check wait times at our QLess Virtual Lines page.

Use Advisement as a key to your Program Success

Expectations for Students

  • As a student, you are expected to:
  •  Schedule and keep advising appointments for at least your first two semesters.
  • Come prepared to all advising sessions.
  • Actively participate in the process and the conversation about your future.
  • Follow through on advising recommendations in a timely way.

In order to be successful as a student, you should be able to:

  1. Use Navigate, and Canvas.
  2. Understand the requirements of your program of study.
  3. Create, maintain, and follow through on your academic plan.
  4. Identify at least two staff/faculty members who can help you learn about and utilize appropriate resources on campus.
  5. Be familiar with and adhere to college policies, procedures, and the Student Code of Conduct.

Expectations for Faculty Coach and/or Student Success Coach

As a Faculty Coach and/or Student Success coach I will:

  • Be knowledgeable about programs and graduation requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Encourage and guide students to develop and pursue their goals.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources.
  • Be accessible via phone, email, and by appointment

Frequently Asked Questions

If your assigned advisor does not match your program, that means the program we have on file is incorrect. To get that corrected, you must go to one of our Student Success Centers and complete a program change.

  • Currently enrolled students are assigned an advisor. "Currently enrolled" means you are registered for the current term.
  • Visiting students are not assigned an advisor. If you are a visiting student, you will be advised by the Student Success Center.
  • New Students are not assigned until classes start for the term they are trying to enroll. New students are advised at orientation.

  • We assign and re-assign at the end of each month during the semester.
  • We do not assign or re-assign in the summer.
